Libya, officially the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, is a country located in the Maghreb region of northern Africa. Bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Libya lies between Egypt to the east, Sudan to the south east, Chad and Niger to the south, and Algeria and Tunisia to the west.

Libya has the highest literacy rate of any country in North Africa (82% of the population can read and write).
